This online Caravan Outfit Checker relies entirely on information provided by the user. The results generated are based solely on these user-supplied figures and should be considered a preliminary assessment for guidance and informational purposes only.

It is absolutely crucial to understand that the results generated by this tool are NOT a substitute for thorough checks, official documentation, or professional advice.

We accept no responsibility for the accuracy of the calculations or results produced by this checker. The accuracy of the results depends entirely on the accuracy of the data inputted by the user. We do not verify this data in any way.

Therefore, we strongly advise users to:

  • Double-check all figures: Ensure the accuracy of all weights, dimensions, and other specifications entered into the tool. Use official sources like the vehicle's VIN plate and the caravan's documentation.

  • Consult official documentation: Always refer to the vehicle's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plate for accurate weight limits (Gross Vehicle Weight, Gross Train Weight, Maximum Towing Capacity). This plate is the definitive source of information used by authorities. The VIN plate can usually be found under the bonnet or on a door pillar and details of the location will be in the owner’s handbook. The plate will be either an alloy plate riveted to the body or a sticker. The VIN plate will display either 3 or 4 sets of weights. It is these weights that the authorities (Police) use to determine whether your vehicle is over-laden.

  • Check the caravan's documentation: Verify the caravan's MTPLM (Maximum Technically Permissible Laden Mass) and other relevant specifications.

  • Consider real-world conditions: Factors such as vehicle loading, road conditions, weather, and driving experience can significantly impact towing safety.

  • Seek professional advice: Consult with a qualified towing expert or caravan dealer for personalised advice.

We expressly disclaim any liability for any loss, damage, or injury arising from the use of this tool, including but not limited to any inaccuracies in the results, whether due to user error or otherwise. The user assumes full responsibility for the accuracy of the information provided and for ensuring the safe and legal operation of their towing combination.

Note: Certain performance, hybrid, city-car models, or similar variants of standard models are not homologated to tow. This means that the vehicle manufacturer has deemed that the model is unsuitable for use as a tow vehicle. With this type of vehicle, the towing capacity will equate to zero, or a gross train weight will not be displayed or will be the same as the Gross Vehicle Weight.
